Now accepting payments for the 10th Annual Andrew Bauer Memorial Nats at Cecil County Dragway on November 12th 2011!! I know a lot of you have attended the SSOTN Racing events at Cecil Country in the past, unfortunately SSOTN has cancelled these events for 2011 due to lack of racer interest.

In case you do not know me I originated the Nats events and ran the event from the beginning for the first 5 years when I was a staff member of SSOTN. The fall event has been known as The Andrew Bauer Memorial Nats since 2002 when Andrew (known as Krimpet) was killed in his 96 Mystic Cobra. This will be the 10th ABM Nats so I rented the track myself to run the event on November 12th, 2011. It will be run just like always with a few changes but nothing major. Track opens at 8am and we have the track until 4pm. There are several local hotels within minutes of the track for post Nats activities. This is not an organized race, just a fun day at the track to end the racing season.

We are not sending out tickets like in the past. If you came to any of the the earlier events you will remember we had paid lists at the gate so we will be going back to that format. Show your ID to the girls at the gate and you will be handed your tech card. If you cannot make it for any reason and sell your spot I need to know the name of the person you sold it to so I can update my lists.

Several people have asked about a rain date. It will NOT rain this day so a rain date does not matter *


*if for some reason it does rain the make up date is at the discretion of the track. Due to the time of year typically it is not until the following year. The Sunday after is not a possibility so the only other options for 2011 would be Saturday the 19th if the track offers that.

The police department of El Paso, TX has a new weapon in their arsenal to crack down on speeders – a fleet of thirteen 2012 Ford Mustangs GTs. Officer Sergio Cordova is one of the lucky police officers who gets to drive one of the new Mustangs, and he appreciates the fact that his job is to drive a muscle car around all day. “Where else are you going to get paid to drive a high-performance car at a high speed?” he says.

Even after two months Cordova has some pretty interesting stories to tell, from people who don’t believe he’s a policeman to people who have tried to race him. “I had one kid race me who said I couldn’t give him a ticket because he beat me,” he says. Another time a driver of 2004 Mustang blew by him at nearly 100 mph. “After we did a mile, and I had hit the lights, he began slamming his fists against the dashboard because he knew what had just happened,” Cordova says.

While many might think that the undercover Mustang is an unfair advantage to the police department, Cordova says that the intention is to prevent bad driving habits and excessive speeding. “A lot of us do it because of what we have seen on the job. I mean, I’ve seen fatalities, people getting hit by trailers, getting split in half, there was a child who got run over by grandma,” Cordova says.

It’s pretty much a given that the 2015 Mustang will be available with some sort of four-cylinder power, marking the return of the Mustang SVO or perhaps the debut of the Mustang EcoBoost, but the exact powerplant that will be under the hood is still being debated. According to one source, though, the engine could be the same turbocharged four-cylinder that will be found in the next 2015 Focus RS.

Top Gear reports that the next generation Focus RS will be getting a direct-injection 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing at least 320 horsepower, and a version of that same engine will also be available in the 2015 Mustang.  According to the British car magazine, though, the Mustang’s engine won’t be quite as powerful to prevent internal competition with the V6 model. Motor Trend estimates that the 2015 Mustang’s four-cylinder could produce anywhere between 250 and 300 horsepower. If that’s the case, we’re guessing that Ford would also increase the output of the Mustang V6 to further separate the two models.
